From the point of temperament what do you think? Are there any changes in the character of the modern Dobermanns?

Unfourtunetly yes, the earlier Dobermanns were excellent working dogs, but now a huge percent of the „modern Dobermann” are only very nice looking, but for work they have a poor performance!
During the ZTP i met several „great named” males with many matings behind their back, and they had catastrofic working performance, unfourtunetly they transmit this deficent character in many-many puppies!

Both of them are equally important, because the Dobermann have to be much more then an inactive beauty! Their wonderful design are only shown fully during movement, during the work. But it is very difficult to achieve this two things simultaneously, because the show condition of the Dobermann is with 4-6 kg higher then the optimal working condition. But I think i managed to demonstrate that it isn’t impossible, both of our dogs have IPO 1 ZTP , and they have extraordinary show results too (female 46x CAC, 15 x CACIB, 18 xBOB, male 25 xCAC , 6 x CACIB, 4x BOB)

What do you think of the level of breeding internationally and in your country?

There are very good breeders in several countries, but unfourtunetly many of them breed they females with the same, small number of “famous (IDC winner) males”, they don’t pay enough attention to the genetical background of their dogs.
Unfourtunetly, at the moment the progenies of these „famous males” can be better sold, then a good combination of two not so famous dogs .
In my opinion, the biggest problem with the Dobermann breedig is, that a few number of special judges holding the bigest shows (IDC, Club Shows) in their hand.
Their don’t judge to meet the actual standard (the description of the optimal Dobermann) much more conforming their own taste or interest.
In each country, they have „amicable” breeders who are mating their females with the males chosen by these „specialist judges”. Usually they think that they know everything the best, but sadly, many times they don’t know sufficently the physiology, anatomy of the dogs for examle during the movement evaluation.
Believe me I know what I’m talking about, I’m a pet specialist veterinarian with 10 years university. They learn only 2-3 months to be judges and they think they are the GOD!
On this way the genetical background of the breed become step by step more closed, a lot of illnesses and many faults become more common.

What about HD in the breed?

The HD is only a slice of a much bigger problem : the consequence of the too fast growing(explosional growing). The Dobermann basicly is a very fast growing breed, majority of the complete dog foods, make this growing faster, on this way the skeletal system (bones , joints) of the dogs can’t develop well enough.
During the fast growing the bones became very soft, they can easily become distorted, on this way the joints lose their congruency (for example the hip became displatic), all body of the dog became very narrow, the legs are deviating from their axis (cow position, french position in front), the movement become like a ”marionett puppet”, disordinate, inhomogene.
To these young dogs all types of injuries are more likely to occure. They working capacity vastly decreases.
The appropriate growing management is, or even more, important than the genetical background (genotipe) to have the best looking, moving dog (best fenotip).
That is why my puppies price include a growing management pack (special food suppliment for the best bone, joint and cartilage development; shedulle for the best feeding, training the puppies during their 1 year age)

During a mate you can correct only 1 maximum 2 faults, be very careful when choosing a male, don’t choose only about his owner or it’s name. Looking at his results (majority of these dogs achived they results at only 2-3 amicable judges!!)
The realy good Dobermanns achive their result from many different judges!!

When they choose a puppy don’t look only about the name of the breeder or of the parents.
Try to choose a well looking puppy, but much more important to try to do the best durig his growth.
First we have to built the skeletal (bones and joints- so the puppy have to be slim till 6-8 months) then the muscles (beetwin 8-12 months) with appropriate training.

The tail docking and ear cropping prohibition is one of the biggest stupidity of EU, with this decision they destroyed the breeding in many countries, the best example is Nederland, not so long ago they were the leader breeders, now nothing.
But unfourtunetly the number of European countries where you can exhibit a cropped dog decreases dramaticaly. So if you want to take your dog to many shows you will have to leave his tail and ears be.
